Uniform

John Monash Science School (JMSS) has a compulsory uniform, with a Summer, Winter and Sports uniform. Students will also need a lab coat, safety glasses and a school backpack with the JMSS logo.

School Uniform.

Blazers must be worn as the outer garment on all school occasions, to and from school, and on all school excursions, unless otherwise advised. On days of extreme heat (30°C or greater), the blazer need not be worn.

Formal-style flat-heeled, fully enclosed, black leather shoes (required for safety in science labs) are to be worn. Sandals and T-bars are not permitted.

‘Out of Uniform’ days are sometimes held in order to raise money for social service. On such occasions, neat casual dress and safe, closed-toe footwear is permitted.

Plain navy blue scarves are permitted in cold weather (no patterns). Plain navy blue beanies and gloves are also permitted, but not in classes.

Lost Property

Please label all your uniform items, books and personal belongings. Lost Property is stored at the Office, and if it has your name on it, you will be emailed to pick it up. Anything left at the end of every term is donated to charity.

PSW is our school uniform supplier. The closest PSW outlet to JMSS is in Glen Waverley. Order early so that you get your order in the right size at the appropriate time.

Second-hand Uniform.

Buy and sell second-hand uniforms, books, calculators and stationery online.

JMSS is conscious of the need to provide an efficient process for families to recycle their textbooks, uniforms and other student resources.  We would like to inform you of this initiative to trade second-hand items via the Sustainable School Shop.

This service provides access to families to second-hand textbooks, uniforms, calculators, stationery, musical equipment and more all year round. By simply advertising For Sale or Wanted items on the website, the system will match buyers and sellers and provide relevant contact information to parties to trade.  The system finds the closest matches between parties and can also provide matches with families from different schools and for items no longer in use at JMSS.

Results from other schools have been excellent, and families have enjoyed a comprehensive and convenient method of trading their second-hand items.

Families are encouraged to register early to participate in this service. The price of participation in this service is $1 per item listed, or $19.95 for an annual subscription giving you unlimited listings.

For the best results, use the system as follows:

  • Register on the website;
  • List your items for sale;
  • List Wanted Ads for those items you are looking to buy;
  • The JMSS booklists are loaded into the system to make listing ads easy;
  • The system matches the ads of buyers with sellers and notifies the buyer (Wanted Ad) via email;
  • Buyers contact sellers and arrange where and when to trade;
  • Most trading will occur with other parents from the school, however, items can be traded with parents from other nearby schools too;
  • Parents are supported via the Sustainable School Shop’s telephone (1300 683 337) and email helplines.

The system is simple and easy to use – if you don’t have a computer, internet access or an email address, please call the Sustainable School Shop for assistance. All enquiries should be directed to the Sustainable School Shop on 1300 683 337. Help is also available through the ‘Contact Us’ link on their website at www.sustainableschoolshop.com.au.

We are very excited about this initiative being offered to parents and we hope you will make the most of the opportunity to annually recycle your school items.
