Parents of JMSS students play a vital role in their learners' development. There are many ways parents can participate and contribute to the vibrant school culture.

Parents Information.

Most of the school communication to parents happens through email. Please check your email every week for updates, policies, special events and the school newsletter. If you are not receiving emails, or would like to update your address, please change it via Compass.

Student Absences.

If a student is going to be away or they are late, please email our Attendance Officer: or call the Student Attendance Line on 9902 9712 (messages welcome any time of the day or night). This needs to be done by 9.30am or an SMS will be automatically sent to the parent’s mobile phone.

Late arrivals

Classes start at 8.40am (8.30am on Friday). If students arrive late please go to reception and put the late note from your parents/guardians into the post box on the desk next to the Compass kiosk. Sign in at the Compass kiosk, then take the printed ticket with you to your class and give to your teacher so they can add you on the attendance roll.

The Department of Education and Training (DET) has provided some new guidelines and policies in regards to Student Engagement.

Parents and Friends Association (PFA).

The John Monash Science School Parents and Friends Association (PFA) fosters relationships between parents and friends of JMSS students, offering support and providing a formal network for members of the school community.

Parents and friends of JMSS students are invited to join our diverse group of committed supporters. PFA is a great way to meet other parents and be involved in school activities. PFA meet one night a month for meetings and guest speaker events, and run other activities at various times throughout the year. You are welcome to come to one or all of our events and meetings. We look forward to your contribution and welcome you to the JMSS PFA community.

Ritchie’s Community Benefit Cards

When shopping at Ritchie’s Supermarkets and by using a Community Benefit (CB) card linked to John Monash Science School, Ritchie’s will donate money back to us.

These cards can be used at any Ritchies IGA store, supermarket or liquor throughout Victoria, NSW and Queensland by our school’s staff, students and their families and friends.

If you would like to support us and you don’t already have a Community Benefit card please collect one at the registers next time you shop at one of the Ritchie’s store so you can use it every time you shop. Simply nominate John Monash Science School when collecting your card –  it’s that easy!

Ask your grandparents and other relatives and friends to also sign up for a card nominating our school – every little bit helps us!

For more information on Ritchie’s Community Benefit Cards, please visit:

If you would like to get in touch with the PFA, outside of meeting times, please email us at
