BioEYES: How Zebrafish capture budding scientists imaginations

JMSS students participating in the BioEYES program (run by Monash’s Biomedicine Discovery Institute (BDI) and Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute (ARMI)) were recently interviewed about their recent experiments using zebrafish from Monash’s vast Fishcore aquarium.

The students set up mating between two zebrafish, observe the differences between the two, and make hypotheses about what the offspring will look like. The entire growth process is recorded and students witness the lifecycles from conception to larvae hatching.

Year 10 students watched the process over several days, saying “It’s been good to see the entire process… In other classes you watch a video on how they develop, but actually having the time passing really helps us understand.”
