This week, we farewelled our graduating Year 12 students with a creative and heartfelt final assembly – their very own 2025 edition of “The JMSS Late Show”.

From clever character costumes to entertaining interviews with our dedicated teachers and beloved school leaders, Mr Andrew Chisholm and Mr Peter Corkill, the event was a fun and memorable celebration of their journey.

The assembly moved seamlessly from light-hearted humour to heartfelt emotion as everyone sat down to listen to Charlie H and Will W’s touching farewell speeches. Their words beautifully captured the spirit of the cohort — reflecting on shared memories, challenges overcome, and the lasting friendships formed throughout their time at JMSS.

Dressed as a yellow Teletubby, Charlie H moved the audience with her open-hearted message about resilience and growth through failure. She shared:

“One thing that JMSS has taught me over the past two years (is) how to fail. I would not have failed at anything at my old school, and I know that one day later in my life I would have failed at something and not had a clue how to cope with it.”

“To me, this is a better skill than doing well all the time could ever have taught me, and I’m quietly grateful (to) the school for breaking my ego down so I could rebuild my pride through hard work and grit. JMSS has taught me resilience by surrounding me with a group of people who, despite still being teenagers, show a work ethic that anyone would envy and that I deeply respect and admire.”

Meanwhile, Will, dressed as Jake, reminded everyone of what it was like arriving at JMSS as year 10 students, “full of angst, nerves, and way too eager to fit in”, and how far they have come to become the collaborative, strong and kind bunch they are today, thanks to the support of teachers and the school community.

“The beauty of John Monash is that it teaches skills no other school teaches, collaboration, perseverance, and kindness. It took me until this year to finally understand what Mr Corkill meant by ‘a rising tide lifts all boats.’ It’s not just one person’s efforts that make a difference, but a team’s. And that’s the reason we were all handpicked as the Class of 2025,” said Will in his speech.

Well done to our brave yellow Teletubby and our sensitive Jake. We are so proud of you, and immensely proud of the resilience, character, and community spirit shown by the entire class of 2025.

To the Class of 2025: thank you for the memories, and may your futures be bright!
