2024 Monash Design Prize Winner: Skye Sriratana

Our 2024 Monash Design Prize Winner Skye Sriratana from John Monash Science School has recently completed her two-week internship with Professor Daphne Flynn in the Design Health Collab.

As a keen competitive weightlifter, Skye’s winning concept was the Weight Plate Loader which aimed to reduce injuries and make training more efficient.

Skye’s design internship explored prototyping that involved research, concept ideation, concept analysis and design development. She was able to use CAD skills and build a low fidelity prototype at Monash Caulfield and Oakleigh prototyping facilities. Shadowing Monash Designers, Skye gained a deeper understanding of design and manufacturing processes through the use of technology such as CNC fabrication and 3D printing.

“I’m so grateful for this internship opportunity offered by Monash Art, Design and Architecture. I have learned so much about the design process and learnt so many soft skills outside of design as well,” said Skye.

“The Monash Design Prize competition continues to grow each year. We are excited to offer this opportunity to promising young designers across Australia studying years 10 to 12, and hope to inspire and nurture the next generation of design professionals,” said Professor Gene Bawden, Head of Design at MADA.

Applications are now open for the 2025 Monash Design Prize and entries close 5 September.
