Solving a 380-year old Mathematics problem

Monash University mathematicians have solved a 17th-century geometric mystery first written by René Descartes.

The article, written by Associate Professor Daniel Mathews, a mathematician at Monash University School of Mathematics, and PhD candidate Orion Zymaris, has been published in the Journal of Geometry and Physics.

Orion Zymaris, the PhD student who assisted in discovering the equation that governs Descartes’s Circle Theorem, is an ex-JMSS student.
